"The Couch to 5k of Criminology"
Criminology 403 is the core criminology theory module within the Masters program in the Law School at Lancaster University. This podcast will reflect on the theories discussed and the activities completed during the two-hour weekly workshop. Over the course of ten weeks, we will consider theories and core concepts in contemporary criminology. Including green, feminist, critical, and activist criminology, crimes of the powerful, and decolonising criminology. Bethan's research explores consensual sibling incest in contemporary fiction, TV, and film. Arguing that its popularity speaks to more than an illicit fascination but is a pervasive, discursive phenomenon, she considers how the modern reframing of the trope reflects contemporary uncertainties surrounding normative sexualities and familial relationships
Nicola Harding is a Lecturer in Criminology at Lancaster University. She has previously worked at Leeds Trinity University and Manchester Metropolitan University, where she is completing her PhD. Nicola gained a First Class Honours degree in Sociology and Criminology at Keele University, before obtaining a Masters in Criminology and Criminal Justice, also at Keele University, which was awarded with distinction in 2015. Nicola's broad research interests include women and social control, critical approaches to community punishment, and understanding lived experiences of the criminal justice system, alongside creative forms of qualitative research.
